Talitha Washington
In Spring of 2024, Indiana University’s Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) welcomed Talitha Washington, Director of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Data Science Initiative and Professor of Mathematics at Clark Atlanta University, to Bloomington from February 26-27, 2024 as part of PBK’s Visiting Scholars program. This program brings distinguished scholars in a variety of disciplines to campuses across the nation, and we were honored to host Dr. Washington when she spoke on “The Mathematics of the Hidden Figures” in which she uncovered the essential ideas created by Katharine Johnson that sent John Glenn into orbit and brought him back safely in a racially segregated era. This public lecture was on Monday, February 26, at 4:15pm in Chemistry Building 001.
