IU’s Visiting Scholar program is just one example of Phi Beta Kappa’s long tradition of celebrating excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and championing freedom of thought. Since 1932, Phi Beta Kappa’s national office has published The American Scholar, an influential, award-winning quarterly magazine of public affairs, literature, science, history, and culture. Nationally, Phi Beta Kappa offers eight awards and fellowships annually. These awards recognize exceptional authors, scholars, graduate students, and professors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, philosophy, French language or literature, and Greek language, literature or history.
Visiting Scholars
In 2016, the Gamma chapter is participating in Phi Beta Kappa’s Visiting Scholars program, which brings distinguished scholars in a variety of disciplines to campuses across the nation. Indiana University will welcome Nora Naranjo Morse, a sculptor and poet from Espanola, New Mexico, to Bloomington from November 2-5, 2016. Morse will deliver a public lecture on Friday, November 5, at 5:00 p.m. entitled “Pueblo Women and Clay” in the State Room East in the IMU. The lecture will be facilitated by Dr. Christina Buke from the Phillbrook Museum of Art.
